From reactive fixes to proactive data ownership

Many organizations still spend huge amounts of time reacting to operational data issues instead of preventing them.

A material is missing key information. A pricing update needs to be corrected manually. A workflow becomes dependent on IT intervention. The issue gets fixed, business continues and then a similar problem appears again a few weeks later.

One of the recurring themes we hear from customers is that data ownership often exists in theory, but not always in practice. Business teams may be responsible for the data, but they are not always empowered with the tools and processes needed to act on that responsibility efficiently.

That is one of the reasons we built this year’s Nordic User Group around the idea of moving from reactive fixes toward proactive ownership.

During the event, we will explore how organizations are approaching this journey in practice, from solving immediate operational data challenges to building more scalable automation, governance, and long-term data quality processes.

Topics during the event include:

  • Product roadmap and platform direction

  • Real customer stories and practical use cases

  • Automation, governance, and data quality

  • Open discussions around operational challenges and lessons learned

  • Tips & tricks for getting more value from existing solutions

From engaging discussions during our session at SAPSA Impuls Gothenburg 2026 to many valuable conversations at our booth, it was great to connect with so many SAP professionals and hear how different organizations are approaching similar operational and data-related challenges.

Interesting to see how many organizations are dealing with similar topics right now: operational data issues, automation, governance, visibility, and ownership.

Events like this are always a good reminder of how valuable it is to hear real experiences from other teams and companies.

The Real Reason Data Quality Culture Doesn’t Change

Many organizations define Data Owners and Data Stewards, but business teams still struggle to feel true ownership of data.

Why?

Because responsibility without operational control rarely feels like ownership in practice.

In this article, we explore why many data quality initiatives stall — not because people do not care, but because they are not properly empowered to act.
